What Kind of Personal Injury Cases Do We Handle?
Our experienced attorneys are dedicated to a variety of personal injury cases, including car, motorcycle and truck accidents, pedestrian accidents and dog bite injuries.
How Can Our Firm Help After an Accident?
Trantolo & Trantolo can help you every step of the way. Our attorneys and supporting staff will deal directly with the insurance company on your behalf and fight to ensure you’re fairly compensated for your injuries.
How Can You Prove that Someone Else is at Fault in a Personal Injury Case?
Evidence is a crucial step in determining someone else’s negligence caused your accident. Our attorneys can help you gather witness testimony, video footage, police reports and relevant medical records. If you lack this type of “direct” evidence, our team is also experienced at using indirect evidence to prove your case. This might include proving the other party behaved in a reckless or careless manner, or has a history of unsafe behavior.
If Partially Found at Fault, Can I Still Receive Compensation Under New York Law?
Yes, you may still receive compensation if you were found partially responsible. New York is a comparative negligence state, which means that damages are reduced by your “percentage” of fault for the accident. For instance, if you are found to be 20% at fault for the accident, your settlement amount would be reduced by 20%.
What Does Personal Injury Compensation Typically Cover?
The amount awarded for winning a personal injury lawsuit may include:
- Damages
- Medical bills
- Lost wages and potential future earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of enjoyment in life and related suffering
How Common Are Accidents in Melville?
A high number of car accidents occur in Melville, making this area one of the most dangerous to drive in New York. In fact, the New York State Department of Transportation reports that there were 2,049 car crashes in Melville in 2017 alone. Looking at this average of 5 to 6 car accidents each day, there were: 1,835 crashes involving property damage only; 193 personal injury crashes; 21 fatal crashes. If you’re planning on driving in the area, be sure to exercise caution and obey all traffic laws.
What Should I Do After a Car Accident in Melville?
If you have been involved in an accident, you should do the following:
- Call an ambulance
- Take pictures of your injuries and document the scene of the crash
- Get the other driver’s insurance or license plate number
Will I Have to Go to Court to Resolve My Personal Injury Lawsuit?
Depending on the circumstances of the accident and extent of your injuries, we may be able to resolve your case outside of the courtroom. Yet more serious injuries may require arbitration or a trial to settle your claim for fair compensation.
How Long Do I Have to File My Personal Injury Lawsuit in Suffolk County?
The statute of limitations to file a personal injury lawsuit in Suffolk County is within 3 years of the incident.
How Will Auto Insurance Laws in Suffolk County Affect My Accident Case?
Your insurance company cannot deny coverage because you have been involved in an accident. There are exceptions when a person can be denied insurance coverage, but they are rare. If you have been granted funds by the New York Personal Injury Protection Act, your case will not change anything. You will still get the compensation and medical treatment that is needed.
How Do I Choose a Melville Personal Injury Law Firm?
There are several factors to consider when choosing a Melville personal injury law firm, including:
- Years of experience
- Local connection
- Success rate
- Notable settlements
- Legal fee agreement

What Can a Melville Personal Injury Lawyer Do for Me?
A Melville personal injury lawyer can help you recover damages for injuries sustained in an accident. We will review your case and, if it’s determined the claim is legitimate, your legal team works diligently to secure the best possible outcome. The process might involve negotiating a settlement with the other party’s insurance company or filing a lawsuit.
When Should I Contact a Melville Personal Injury Law Firm?
If you’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence, contact a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible. While there is no “right” time to call, it’s best to do so before missing the window to file your claim.
